- Creitz & Donovan AA/FD
IN
STOCK
In the early
days of drag racing , that is, before the era of corporate sponsorship,
most Top Fuel cars were known by the name of the people involved
with the race car. The car could be named after the owner and
driver, the engine builder and tuner, driver and mechanic, tuner
and the financier or any combination of those things. And, at
that time, one of the most feared teams in the sport was the
team of Tulsa, Oklahoma based Bob Creitz and SoCal parts manufacturer/racers
Ed Donovan. Their most successful drivers was Steve Carbone,
another Okie. In 1968 the team went to Indianapolis and made
it to the final round of the Nationals only to lose to Big
Daddy Don Garlits. Years later Carbone would have his
revenge when he beat Big at the 71 Indy race
after one of the classic staging battles of all-time.
The Creitz & Donovan dragster
includes such details as: - Aerodynamic die-cast
204-inch wheelbase design
- Removable upper body panel exposes detailed interior - - 392 Chrysler hemi engine that's fully wired with
ignition wires and flexible fuel lines - Hollow
simulated Goodyear slicks on five spoke Halibrand mag wheels - Detailed tubular framework and fuel tank detail - Fabric seat belts and shoulder harness with photoetched
buckles - Color scheme detailed from actual vintage
racing pictures and reference data from Bob Creitz and WDIFL.com.

If you ran a Top Fuel
car in SoCal in the late 60s and early 70s, one site you hated
to see when you pulled in the pits was a white Bolis trailer
with Gary Cochran lettered on the side. He was on the 'A' list
of guys you had to beat. |
